We had the opportunity to conduct training at the University of the Free State last week, on using Open Journal Systems Version 3, and in support of international Open Access Week (24 – 30 Oct). The new interface is very simple and a huge improvement from OJS Version 2. There are however still a few bugs to be resolved, and we are looking forward to an even more stable version soon. Identifying bugs and reporting and testing the software are part of the open source community philosophy, and a great way to contribute and give back, all collaborating to improve the software and making research more openly accessible.

We hope that more SA journals will consider making the transition to online and open access.
